Inspiration

Hey guys,

Lately I've been having a lot of dreams and spur-of-the-moment ideas that pop into my mind. Many times they're just quick little ideas for stories, but other times I find myself grinding deeper into my subconcious and I form a new story in my mind that I really want to write!

Now, the problem is I have too many stories that are incomplete on my computer. I was thinking about possibly having you guys vote in a poll on what you would like to see completed first, but that's just an idea.

I'm very passionate about my writing, as you all know, but I don't tend to keep to them long enough to finish a piece of work.

So tell me, what do you do when you find yourself unable to do something?

I'd like to know-- who knows, it may help me get back on my feet and begin writing like I once did when I first began writing.

Thanks you guys,

Beetlebomb

Well you should write down your ideas so you have something to draw from when you're writing stories. You should also write the stories that you want to/can. There's no use trying to write a story if your heart's not in it and you end up straining your mind for ideas.

You could always get someone else to work on the stories that you've got stuck on. I'd be willing, I've wanted to write something but I have difficulty starting a story. If there's a story that you can't continue you could send it to me if you want and I'll have a look. If not, you could share your ideas for stories with the community and get some feedback in the form of ideas and suggestions.

I'm actually a bit like you, I have a couple of stories on the go as well but I currently haven't got the time to work on them yet (waiting for the holidays).

I believe the best thing to do is to jot down all the stories I have in my head right now, and just work on one at a time.

When it comes down to whether or not I have enough time to put into my writing, that isn't really a problem. As you said though, writing needs to have heart, and no one can always have the right mindset and passion, but you try and catch yourself for when you are ready to write those 3-5 more pages you've been running over in your mind all day.

As for sharing work, I'm not too fond of that. I'm sure you understand. I tried to do that once before with another person and it came out nothing like I had pictured and it killed the image in my mind.

A story is how you make it, someone can't do that for you.

When the time comes, I'll be finishing each and every one of my ideas.

Thanks for replying,

Beetlebomb

Yeah, I guess you've had a hard time with sharing your work with the community, and I understand why you would be unwilling to do it again, but you've got to have your critics. Also, that was on a different forum, here, you've recieved nothing but praise and encouragement. People around here wouldn't want to lose one of their only contributors. Don't listen to people who dismiss your work out-of-hand, but don't shut yourself off from the fans.

Admittedly though, I like it when a story comes out all at once instead of getting teasers and being on tenderhooks waiting for the next part to come out in a couple of months.

If you do want feedback or suggestions, you could always start a thread in the requests section and then people can make general comments about what they like, what could be improved, and what they would like to see.

Good luck with the writing!
